What you should know about Phobia: Phobia is a type of anxiety or mental disorder which causes a person to feel extreme, exaggerated,  irrational fear about a situation, living creature place, or object.  The person suffering from this disease feels distressed when faced with the actual source of the phobia. And the person becomes unable to perform the function in the normal way and sometimes he got a panic attack.  It is an illogical and excessive fear reaction.

If anybody is suffering from a phobia, he will feel a deep sense of dread or panic when he encounters the source of fear. He may feel fear of a certain place, water,  situation, man, woman, animal, or object such as a lift. Phobia is usually connected to something specific.

What is Phobia?

When any person suffers from a phobia, he molds himself in such a situation to avoid such work or act to which he has a phobia. The imagined threats are greater than any actual threat created by the cause of terror.  It is a diagnosable mental disorder.

Symptoms of phobia

Due to its panic attack, the patient becomes frightened and  experience the following symptoms

The sensation of uncontrollable anxiety.

  • A feeling to avoid the source of fear or stress.
  • Unable to function properly when exposed to the trigger.
  • And at the time of feeling panic there will be sweating, trembling, chills, difficulty in breathing, sensation choking, chest pain, dry mouth, nausea, dizziness, and so many other symptoms appear.

Causes of phobia

Phobia is usually started in early childhood, teenage or early adulthood. They can be caused due to stressful or frightening events or a parent or household member with a phobia which a child can learn.

Are phobias be cured?

Most cases of phobia can be successfully treated and cured. It can be treated through gradual exposure of the object which is responsible for phobias, such as an object, animal, place, or situation that causes terror and nervousness.

Generally, phobia improves with age but the phobia of heights and phobia of crowds remain continued and get worse.

Treatment

Treatment of phobia is very necessary. In the case it remains untreated, it may worsen the life of the patient seriously, and the patient feels problems with physical health,  social life with friends and family, school, or at the workplace.

Phobia can be treated successfully with proper medication and psychotherapy under the supervision of an expert medical specialist in the respective field.

A psychologist may give behavioral therapy to root out the general causes of phobia or source of fear, treat the same accordingly by exercising proper activities in the matter. The doctor, a psychiatrist may recommend proper medication that helps the patient to move back to his normal life. In this way, patients with a phobia may feel better.
